Handstands and Calisthenics
HANDSTANDS

At The Beacon Movement, our coaches work hand in hand with you to solve any handstands problems you are facing, and bring you to greater heights in your practice!
Learning Outcome

- Know how to stay safe so you have the confidence to tackle more complex positions.
- Develop awareness upside down.
- Improve overall strength and control of the body
Chris and Lindsey left their 3 kids at home and attend gymnastics training weekly for the past year.
Chris, with no prior background, struggled to even kick up to a wall Handstand independently. But he learnt along the way, and executed the drills given to him with intent. Slowly and surely, he starts to get better and here he is, executing flips. Not bad for a dad of three kids, a heavy workload, who started with no prior experience!
Lindsey did recreational gymnastics for a couple of years when she was a kid. But she came with a different set of challenges. Having injured her shoulder badly in her teens, she is apprehensive about putting weight on her hands, and unable to hang with straight arms. Her shoulder even came out during one of our sessions, after completing a front tuck. But we slowly conditioned up her shoulder stability and load it up gradually to develop her confidence, while drilling the basics till the room for error is minimal. We even have to modify some “standard” gymnastics techniques for her to execute the movement safely! With her getting stronger, she starts to fight back against her inner fear of flips and Handstands. Looking at her starting point, I can say I am really proud of what she has achieved in this short span.

CALISTENICS
By knowing how to manipulate the tension and position of your body, you are able to increase or decrease the intensity of your workout! And this is one of the beauty of Calisthenics, a from strength and conditioning method use by Gymnasts of all levels- from 5 years old, to elite level Gymnasts. The reason why it form a huge part of a Gymnasts Physical training, is because while it develop strength, it develop total body control, as we need just the right amount of tension at the right muscles to execute a move. And it strengthens your joints immensely, because of the fact it directly works your joints to make it really strong, making it one of the most holistic strength and conditioning methods around!
Learning Outcome
- Understand how to make an exercise easier or harder, by adjusting the angle of your body
- Improve brain-body connection as it requires quite a fair amount of coordination
- Strengthen your joints and develop strength
- Improve posture and balance
