Scoliosis: “Just bend the other way”

Often, I hear suggestions along the line, “why don’t you just bend the other way?”. If only scoliosis is this easy to fix!

Scoliosis is multi-dimensional with rotation and lateral (side) curves in the spine. Looking at the x-rays provided, the scoliosis curves do not “bend the other way” when the person side-bends. And if you look closely, the portion where the spine bends is actually the most flexible part of the spine which *drum roll*… is not your scoliosis curves.

Trying to correct scoliosis by side bending is a very advanced exercise that requires precise and subtle cues. And if you are looking to help yourself, why not work with elongation exercises to grow taller and minimise compression in your concavity (crunched) side?
